Measure Up Monday - 28 Weeks

Look!  It's only Tuesday (night), and the blog is already updated!

We're still dealing with teeth here.  They aren't through yet, and it's made for some rough nights.  I hope they come through soon, so we can all get some sleep, but I don't mind that she's teeth-free when it comes to feeding.  I'm scared of being bitten, and I really hope that when the teeth do come through, I'm lucky enough to not have a biter.

Adriana's other accomplishment this week is that she's started to scoot more and more.  She gets her butt in the air, and moves forward a little at a time.  We're excited to see that scooting turn into crawling...someday.

Finally, Adriana has started playing peek-a-boo.  It is the cutest thing.  She started doing it with a blanket or other object.  But when she doesn't have a blanket, she clasps her hands together and puts them over her eyes.  Then she tries to see if we're looking, so she puts her hands up on her forehead.  Then we say, "where's Adriana?" and she pulls her hands down.  I'll try to get a picture of this soon.

Measure Up Monday - 27 Weeks

Spring Break is soon.  Apparently the trade-off for a week off of work is having the busiest week ever right now, which is why I missed Monday's update.

I did take the picture on time.  In fact, I cheated and took it early so you could see Adriana's cute St. Patrick's Day outfit (thank you, Grandma Coley).  I think that's the other reason I forgot to post the picture...it was different from my normal routine.

Anyway...enough with the excuses.  Here are the long-awaited pictures:

Adriana Leigh is Six Months Old

I can't believe it has already been 1/2 of a year with Adriana!  It doesn't seem like she should be this old already, and yet, it feels like she's always been a part of our lives.

Hey, Elmo!  Let me have your nose...



...or your foot



Wait!  What do you have there?

Paper!  I love paper!

It is SO much fun!

Now that I've torn the paper apart, I'll go after Elmo again!

At six months old, Adriana can do all of the following:

• Keep her head level when pulled to a sitting position
• Make some vowel-consonant sounds and some two-syllable sounds (She hasn't been babbling as much lately, though.  Scott says this means that she is putting some thought into what she is saying instead of just saying the first thing that comes to her mind.)
• Sit by herself with minimal support
• Open her mouth for a spoon
• Reach for and grab objects
• Roll over and back
• Hold a bottle
• Copy some facial expressions
• Turn in the direction of a voice
• Play peekaboo (She just started this yesterday, and she doesn't have it completely down yet, but she's starting.)
• Chew on objects
• Reach for utensils when being fed
• Respond to her name
• Have different reactions for different family members
• Reach for toys
• Transfer object from hand to hand
• Extend her arms when getting dressed

I just can't believe how big she is getting and all of the stuff she's learned to do in the past six months.  We love you so much, Adriana Leigh Herman!

Measure Up Monday - Week 25

It's getting harder and harder to get a good picture.  Adriana just does not want to sit still!  I love how active she is, though.  She cracks us up everyday!

Measure Up Monday - 23 Weeks

Adriana just doesn't know about Elmo today...

Adriana Leigh is Five Months (22 Weeks) Old!

At five months old, Adriana is...

• Paying attention to small objects (she loves the tags on her toys)
• Experimenting with the concept of cause and effect (she's starting to drop stuff and wonder where it went)
• Able to see across the room
• Using hands in a raking fashion to bring toys near
• Teething (but nothing is through yet!)
• Keeping head level when pulled to a sitting position
• Making vowel-consonant sounds
• Sitting by herself with minimal support
• Opening mouth for spoon
• Reaching for and grabbing objects
• Copying some facial expressions
• Making two-syllable sounds
• Rolling over and back (but it's a rare occurrence because she hates it)
• Turning in the direction of a voice (most of the time)
• Chewing on objects
• Reaching for utensils when being fed
• Babbling enthusiastically
• Attacking Elmo...

Scott recently told a coworker about all the stuff Adriana is doing.  The coworker (who has a nephew close to her age) said that there's no way she's actually doing all of this.  He thinks we're biased and imagining things that aren't really there.  I told Scott to invite him over to spend some time with her.  We are lucky enough to have such a smart little girl.  Athletically, she may not be the most advanced (hence, not rolling over much), but socially and cognitively, she's ahead of her age in many areas.
