Adriana Leigh is 18 Months Old!

We are already halfway through Adriana's second year!

At 18 months, Adriana can do all of the following:
  • stoop and stand back up independently
  • bend over and look through her legs (we call this her handstand)
  • walk backwards
  • run the length of a room without falling down
  • pushes, pulls, and carries large toys while walking
  • climbs up stairs
  • marks a piece of paper with a crayon and scribbles (she usually scribbles pretty delicately)
  • stacks 3+ blocks
  • can hold an object with one hand and manipulate it with the other hand
  • sits directly in a small chair
  • picks up a toy from the floor when standing up
  • walks on tiptoes
  • kicks ball forward
  • turns pages of book one by one
  • attempts to put on shoes
  • attempts to put familiar objects away
  • waves
  • imitates new, less-familiar words, sounds, and body movements
  • points to and reaches for objects
  • uses a combination of simple words, inflection, and body language to get her point across
  • identifies parts of her body
  • identifies parts of others' faces
  • points to pictures in books upon request
  • listens to nursery rhymes and short songs with fingerplay
  • can speak 45 words
  • plays alone on floor with toys
  • enjoys being held and read to
  • enjoys and audience and applause
  • likes to hand objects to others
  • recognizes self in mirror and pictures
  • imitates others, especially by coughing, sneezing, or making animal sounds
  • likes to imitate parents' actions
  • gets angry sometimes and has temper tantrums
  • comforts a distressed parent
  • enjoys simple pretend play like wearing hats and talking on phone
  • shows affection by hugging and kissing
  • finds it difficult to wait and wants things immediately
  • enjoys looking at picture books
  • enjoys adult attention
  • enjoys exploring and gets into everything
  • often gets physically aggressive when frustrated
  • is attached to a toy (Dora)
  • goes after a hidden object
  • knows "scripted" routines (bedtime)
  • can match two objects together by color or shape
And, of course, she's still as cute as ever! (The pictures were taken while we were visiting Grandma Coley and Poppy.)

Baby #2 - 22 Weeks

Once again, I took the picture on time, and then I didn't get it on here.  Someone asked me how I was feeling the other day, and then she said that she had heard that the 2nd trimester was the best.  She said she heard people say that during the 2nd trimester, it was the best they had EVER felt.  I don't know who she had been talking to.  I love being pregnant...but it's not the best I have ever felt.  Besides the heartburn, I'm still exhausted all the time.  That's why I never can keep the blog updated:  I always fall asleep before I have time to update the blog.

But, here are the 22 Week pictures (better late than never):

Baby #2 - 21 Weeks

I was going to try wearing the same shirt as I had worn when I was pregnant with Adriana at 21 weeks, but it just didn't work out.  I couldn't wear the shirt on Thursday because of a spirit day at school.  Then, I wore it on Friday, but I fell asleep before I got the picture taken.  So, the picture was taken on Saturday in a different shirt.

Adriana is really starting to take off with her vocabulary.  Scott and I were talking yesterday about how many new words she is learning, and I said that it was going to be hard to give a monthly update because I'll forget what all she has learned by that time.  So, I've decided to keep a list here.  The first 18 or so are in no particular order.

Baby Herman #2

A loyal reader recently pointed out that I haven't posted any belly pictures during this pregnancy.  Although I realize that gaining weight is a necessary part of pregnancy, and I don't worry about gaining that weight because I want my children to be healthy, I do still feel a little self-conscious about it.  Especially when people make comments.  When I had just gotten pregnant, a co-worker told me that she knew I was pregnant because it always shows immediately in my hips and thighs.  After that comment, I wasn't up for showing off pictures that would feature my seemingly huge hips and thighs.  However, I don't want to be unfair to this baby, so...

Week 18 (Click here to compare to Adriana at 18 weeks):

Week 19 (Click here to compare to Adriana at 19 weeks):

Week 20 (Click here to compare to Adriana at 20 weeks):

Plus, by waiting until 20 weeks to post, you get to see the most exciting pictures...pictures of the baby!

My students thought this one showed that I was having twins.  I had to explain that they were looking at a stomach and a head, not two heads.
